Did 2014 Already Happen?
Indeed, it did. Let's see...
-Westbrook turned 8! He's in 3rd grade. He is a reading maniac.
-Llandis turned 7! She is in 1st grade and loving math, reading, drawing, and writing stories
-Wade is teaching k-8 and loving it
-Mary left Burt's/Clorox after 10 years and joined the candy world
-We didn't have to be in anyone's wedding this year!
-Wade took the kids to The Mountain for their first summer camp experience.
-Both kid's rocked out their first swim season. WB made the all-star team! He was a speed demon in the breast stroke. Llandis won a backstroke race and perfected her dive.
-Mary & Riri became obsessed with biking and did a ridiculous 63mi ride for fun.
-Llandis got her ears pierced on her 7th birthday!
-Westbrook is so tall that sometimes he surprises me when he comes around the corner.
-Llandis is still enjoy ballet.
-Westbrook can still be found dancing around the house in his underoos.
-Both kids are learning to play the piano and doing quite well. Their first recital is next week!
-After 12yrs of working from home with a flexible schedule, Mary is now up at 4:30am daily, drives an hour north, and works in an office. It's a total life change for all of us but we think it's worth it!
-The kids spent another week in Mobile with Granna and Wyn. Summer at Granna's is now a tradition! (right Granna?)
-The traveling crew also went to Atlanta to visit Uncle Ben and Aunt Laney (Braves game!) and DC to visit Chris, Katie, & Carter (Another Braves game!!).
-When they weren't at the pool or vacationing, the kids spent the bulk of their summer outside playing in the woods and building forts.
-All in all, life is pretty good.

I haven't done a great job of keeping up with the blog this year (or the last few). At the end of the day, life is busy and things get prioritized. The priorities aren't always right but it feels like we are operating in survival mode more often than not. The blog, sadly, is one thing I can't fit in most of the time.
Today, however, was blog worthy. I have been working hard the last year. Running, yoga, boxing, and trying to make myself one of my many priorities.
I have felt selfish at times for running when I could be doing laundry or finishing a work project. I have missed some morning snuggles because I went to the gym early. Big picture, however, I have been trying to be a better example for the kids and work as hard on myself as I do everything else.
My friend, Jen, and I ran a half marathon today. It was my first race since the 1988 Beverly Wood's Fun Run. 25years!!! Somehow Jen convinced me that I was ready. We panicked about the forecast (cold and rainy) and what we would wear (down to late night text about undies).
We got a little lucky that it only rained off and on which just made us run faster. Drew's ragged old hat kept the rain from driving me insane. We ran the entire race and pushed one another when the hills kept hitting us.
We finished, never walking, about three minutes faster than expected.
It. Was. Awesome.
All in all, it has been a great year. I have visited the Great Wall of China, swam with sharks, jumped from too high places into the Caribbean, fought for what I deserved at work and got it, celebrated 10 yrs of marriage with Wade, and the kids grew taller, sharper, and happier. Blessedly, everyone stayed healthy.
The highlight was this race- mile 7 & mile 9. The kids, Wade, Gram and Suppy were there cheering us on. The kids were so excited! Wade was a super fan. Gram and Suppy were back in their natural element...enduring miserable weather in Charlotte Soccer Club jackets cheering for one of their kids. The smiles on Westbrook and Llandy's faces were full of pride and excitement. You can't beat that, folks. Ever.
And now, I am going to sleep the rest of the year. Grateful and happy.

The Traveling Mama
Travel is the name of the game right now. Changes at work have increased my travel schedule all summer. Hopefully it is a short term thing. It is really hard but we are managing. Either way, the kids are cute via FaceTime!

Girl's Weekend
Wade and Westbrook went to Atlanta with Suppy, Ben, Dan, and Dylan. They went to the Aquarium, a Braves Game, and Lego Land. It was a busy weekend.
While the boys were gone, Llandis and I had a super fun girls weekend. We had fancy hair, nails, superhero eye makeup, exercised (swimming), long dog walks, nature walks, movies, and fancy lunches.
